How safe is sedation dentistry?
Just as with any medical procedure sedation dentistry has risks and potential side effects. Most risk and side effects are minor such as a sore throat, drowsiness, agitation, and nausea and vomiting. Extremely rare occasions allergic reactions, respiratory issues, and cardiac issues can occur. Patients with more extensive medical conditions may face higher risks. Our office evaluate your child to make sure they are a good candidate for sedation prior to any procedure.
How is sedation dentistry done?
Sedation can be administered in a variety of ways depending on the level of sedation desired for the patient. Our office offers General Anesthesia in a hospital setting. Children will breathe through a mask to go to sleep, and after they are sleeping an IV will be started to assist the nurses anesthesia provider administer medications. Should your child require a lower degree of sedation our office can make the appropriate referral.
How much does sedation dentistry cost?
The cost of sedation dentistry depends on the type of sedation used and the location the sedation occurs. For patients with private insurance sedation costs can range from several hundred to a few thousand. Our team will work with your insurance company in order to maximize your benefit and try and limit out of pocket expenses.
Do you work with my insurance?
Yes, we will work with your insurance company to maximize your dental benefits. We also offer financial arrangements to allow for larger costs to be split up over a longer period of time.
Can you eat before sedation dentistry?
For safety, children undergoing general anesthesia with our office must refrain from eating or drinking eight (8) hours prior to the procedure. A team of nurses will contact you to discuss strict instructions one day prior to your sedation appointment.
